  • Global leader in packaging automation grew from regional custom manufacturer
  • Brenton hosts reception in state-of-the-art Alexandria, Minnesota Center for Engineering and Manufacturing Excellence

Brenton, a leading manufacturer of end of line packaging equipment, celebrates its 25th anniversary in the packaging industry this year. Founded in 1987, Brenton started as a regional custom manufacturer with the intent to focus on cable car lift systems and evolved into one of the world’s foremost experts in end of line packaging automation and productivity improvement.

Brenton was founded in Alexandria, Minnesota by its namesake Brenton Smith and introduced its first case packer in 1988 after being commissioned to build several custom packaging machines. Over the years Brenton continued to refine its case packing technology and grow its product line to deliver complete end of line packaging solutions, often focusing on complex automation challenges turned down by other manufacturers. Today, Brenton’s product line includes a wide range of case packers, shrink wrappers, palletizers, material handling, and robotic solutions. Brenton also builds Currie brand palletizers, Orion brand stretch wrappers, and complete, turnkey end of line solutions in its Center for Engineering and Manufacturing Excellence in Minnesota. Brenton machinery and integrated systems are being used to package some of the world’s largest and most successful consumer goods brands in North America, South America, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific.

Brenton introduced the first all servo-driven case packer in 1997, paving the way for its industry-leading small footprint BrentonPro Series manufactured today. The BrentonPro Series is the result of extensive collaboration with customers, and provides cost-effective, energy efficient, sustainable solutions that deliver innovations such as product simulation, superior collating, tool-less adjustment, and automatic changeovers.

Brenton was acquired by ProMach, a leading provider of packaging machinery, products, and solutions, in 1998. ProMach owns more than 20 brands which provide packaging and processing equipment, PMMI certified training, installation, parts, and service for primary and secondary packaging, end-of-line packaging, material handling, and identification and tracking. As part of ProMach, Brenton continued its commitment to product development and engineering excellence with innovations in robotics, material handling, and palletizing, such as the Currie by Brenton MasterPal technology which allows palletizing and depalletizing of full layers of product. ProMach also expanded Brenton’s systems integration and manufacturing capabilities in 2007, more than doubling the size of its facilities. Brenton’s Center for Engineering and Manufacturing Excellence encompasses more than 200,000 square feet. It includes state-of-the-art engineering, manufacturing, and factory acceptance testing capabilities. Recent added capabilities include powder coat finishing and laser cutting.

“One of the things that makes Brenton unique is its ability to successfully design, build, and test complete end of line systems in their Minnesota facility,” says ProMach End of Line President Barry Heiser. “This allow us to develop the most efficient and effective packaging system possible for our customers before it is installed on their factory floor, speeding their path to productivity and lowering their integration risks and costs.” “We’re honored to be celebrating our 25th anniversary,” said Mr. Kirksey. “We have been fortunate to have many outstanding customers who have trusted us to help them achieve their manufacturing goals. We have also been fortunate to have many talented employees who have helped us continue to grow our business over the years. The city of Alexandria and the state of Minnesota have also been extremely supportive of our efforts to grow our business.”

To mark its 25th anniversary, Brenton will host a reception Thursday, July 25th from 4:00 – 6:00 pm, at its manufacturing Center of Excellence in Alexandria, Minnesota. The event will be hosted by Barry Heiser, President of ProMach’s End-of-Line business and Brenton General Manager, Ryan Kirksey.

“We’re honored to be celebrating our 25th anniversary,” said Mr.
